MEDICINES
We are developing new drugs to treat conditions caused or exacerbated by accelerated stem cell aging, which triggers a combination of three hallmarks: abnormally short telomeres, increased oxidative stress and accumulation of DNA damage. When the three are combined, typically at an advanced stage of the disease, inflammation can also be present. We have learnt that when lowering one of these three hallmarks, the other two are lowered also, and inflammation is reduced.

With this in mind, we are focused on developing a cure for the following pathologies:
- Ataxias, including spinocerebellar ataxia, ataxia telangiectasia, and others.
- Bone marrow failure, including dyskeratosis congenita (and its most aggressive form, Hoyeraal-Hreidarsson syndrome), Revesz Syndrome, and some rare forms of aggressive blood cancers.
- Fragile X Syndrome.
- Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
- Diabetes. We focus on lowering beta cell telomere attrition, to increase survival and functionality.
